Advanced Television Broadcasting team members learned first-hand what it takes to be in the television news industry during a field experience at WDSU in New Orleans. The group was able to take a tour of the news station, talk to the journalists and watch a produced show in action. The WDSU team first had their team meeting, explaining to ATVB team members how they pitch their stories for the day. After attending the meeting, the team members moved into the control room to learn more about the studio production side of the news industry.
Two of WDSU’s technical directors talked to them about what skills they would need to perform different roles, as well as how they can practice agency now to prepare for working with others in the future. They then watched Travers Mackel record his in-depth interview segment called, “The Hot Seat,” that was set to air later that weekend. Lastly, the ATVB team members watched parts of the Noon newscast in the studio, and got to chat with the show’s news anchor, Darryl Forges.
