School Spirit

It’s that time of year one of the biggest games of the season for these two River Parish teams. The Destrehan vs Hahnville game is easily one of the biggest events that take place in the St.Charles Parish community bringing people from all over Louisiana to the river parish to watch this showdown. One of my favorite things about this epic game is the friendly rivalry between the DHS and HHS students.

School spirit over flows the crowded student section and brings an exciting essence to the stadium. However this overwhelming school spirit isn’t just present at the game or even only on game day. The students begin what is called “rival week” Monday morning both schools dedicate the whole week to the game on Friday as a spirit week with different themed days allowing students to dress down and pep rallies.

Some students take it into the community students from both Wildcat Country and Tiger Nation travel to the opposite side of the river to pull pranks on the opposing teams community. Many residents awake to toilet paper draped over the limbs of trees in front of their homes and littered on the lawns, printed paw prints tapped to street signs, egg residue on front doors, and my personal favorite DHS painted on to the west bank of the levee. None of the this is new to the community these harmless pranks have become game week tradition.
