Battle on the River Fan Experience
September 23, 2015
On September 25,2015 the highly anticipated rivalry between the Destrehan Wildcats and the Hahnville Tigers comes to head. For almost 70 years, the two teams have captured audiences all over the world but there is nothing that can compare to being there at the game.
Whether the game is hosted at Wildcat stadium or Tiger stadium, fans from both sides are sure to show up and show out. Painted faces, spirit towels, and clappers swirl over the fans before the game has even kicked-off. The proud moms spill into the stands dripped in their teams colors.
The aroma of fresh jambalaya sends your salivary glands into overdrive. The parking lot is more people than cars. The home team fans have taken over. They’ve been tailgating for hours and show no sign of moving until that ball is in the air for kick-off. You hear a faint drum getting close.
The band is making their way around the corner. Before they can fully make the corner their teams side is already standing on their feet applauding. After the band has put even more excitement into the crowd the renowned dancers make the corner glistening in their uniforms. From there on, its time to get down to what everyone has been waiting since the last battle on the river for, the game.
After uniting both sides in a prayer and pledge of allegiance, the ball is finally kicked-off. the whole stadium is one loud roar. As the game goes on, both sides go through what you might call extreme bipolarness. Usually both team lead on and off making it a very close game that drives the fans insane. No one moves from there seat until half time and even after then they quickly return ready for more and extremely unsure about the end result. In the end, no matter what team wins, both still continue to proclaim that their team is the best in the parish.
The stands empty and left behind is nothing but the empty drink containers and bowls where cheese fries once resided. Both teams await their boys to congratulate, and the losing team console. Almost every head will turn and look back at that magical stadium of rivalry that makes football worth the stress ready to take on their rival next year. But hey, I’m sure watching it from your living room is the same right?
