2018-2019 Lip Dub Reflection

Tayler Tabb, camera, editor, director, scriptwriter

Paragraph 1: What are your thoughts on how the Lip Dub video came out? What were some things that you liked about it? What are some things that could have been improved?

I felt that overall the Lip Dub video came out good. One of my favorite things about the video was the transitions, they were creative and also had a meaning to our class. Also, I like that we decided to do a mashup. The one thing that could of been better was the transitions between the elevator scenes, it was a little choppy and almost seemed out of place. We should of planned our shots better on film day knowing that we would have to drop the scenes in afterwards.

Paragraph 2: Do you think the video accomplished its purpose of promoting the Satellite Center and Open House/Showcase? If yes, how? If no, why not? How did you think this year’s video compared to years past?

I think that the video did accomplish its purpose in promoting the Satellite Center. All of the classes were shown in a fun way that represented their class and the full screens / voice overgave all the information needed for anyone who is interested in coming to the open house. Since we decided to do a mashup, it made our video different than in years past, so that made ours stand out and I think that it came out better than the mashup that was done 2 years ago.

Paragraph 3: What did you think about the process of Lip Dub: Brainstorming, Pitch Meeting, Planning, Class Meetings, Recording, etc.? What were some aspects you liked? Why did you like them? What are some things about the process that you wished would have gone differently? How could they have been improved?

I think the process of Lip Dub is in a right order, but with our class, we failed to be leaders and effectively communicate to our classes on what they needed to do. The recording day should not be on the second day we get back from New Years so we can have more time to run through with our classes and make sure that everything gets organized. Especially when Mr. Robinson is absent the day before filming… a lot had to be done or figured out on filming day which took up time. What I liked the most about the process was filming. It was fun to be on the camera and make sure that everyone was being shown and seeing everyone have fun with their parts. One part of the process that I wish we could of done differently was the communication between AM and PM. I think that by the classes not communicating enough, it causes issues and lead to the right information to not be given out. Some people were not as informed as others and that hurt the beginning stages of the project. This could of been improved by the team leaders making sure that they communicated each day about what got done and any question they or the class had.

Paragraph 4: When I’m planning this project for my Team Members next year, what are some things that you think should stay the same? What are some things that I should plan differently (give specific examples of how you think I should fix them)? What advice do you have for next year’s Team Members when working on Lip Dub?

I think the process of Lip Dub is fine the way it is, but I like the idea of splitting Lip Dub into an AM and PM projects. By doing this, it would not cause any issues between the classes and everyone can work on it equally. I also think that next year there should be a lot more run throughs with classes. That way we would not have to do as many takes on film day and less people will complain. Members of ATVB who are not on camera should also be in the video with their classes so they can make sure that their class knows what they are doing and help them along the way. My advice for future team members would be to make sure that your songs have some sort of meaning behind them so they can relate to the Satellite Center. Make sure your voice is heard if you have an issue with something, do your part to help, and make sure you ask questions if you are not sure about something. It is better to make sure than to give out the wrong information. Have fun with your classes and be a part of the video. The more you stress out, the less fun the project will be and this is supposed to be a fun project that everyone is a part of.
