Matthew 25:35 Ministries Short

Tayler Tabb, camera, editor, director, scriptwriter

For this project, we had to find an organization that was a partner of the United Way of St. Charles and make a commercial so people know what they do for our community. We had to make a short version that just focused on our partner agency. Also a longer version that showed the relationship between the United Way of St. Charles and the partner agency. It showed how the two organizations had big impacts in their community and how they are all completely run by volunteers.  In order to reach the final product of both videos, I had to constantly stay in contact with my partner agency so that I would be able to get all of the footage I would need. First, we had to pick a partner agency off a list on the United Way website, I chose the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry. Next, we had to contact our partner agency to confirm a day that we could film and also find people to interview. We had to make 10 questions for each person that we would be interviewing to ensure we could tell a story using only sound bites. Then, I made all of the lower thirds and full screens for my entire class. Next, I went on the scheduled date to film. I got a lot of footage and all of my interviews that I needed. After, I had to take everything and put it together to create my videos. Lay out all of my videos in the timeline where they tell a story, add b-roll on top of it, and then add lower thirds and full screens. Finally we had to present to our partner agencies in a professional setting, take any feedback they had, and make any final changes to our videos.

As a whole, I enjoyed this project, I thought everything worked out well and my partner agency really liked the videos that I made for them. My favorite part about this project was filming and putting the videos together. During filming, it was fun to see everything happen and I was able to experience first hand the impact my organization had on its community. Also, when I was putting all of the interviews together, I really like how they flowed and told a story. The part that I did not like was having not as much free will like in other videos. There is structure that needs to be followed and if it is not followed, they the video will not come out right. A big thing that I learned while completing this video was to keep up with deadlines. Make sure that everything is done when it needs to be. Also to have everything planned out. If things are not planned out, then everything will be done late.

Working with an outside client for the first time went pretty well for me. I had a good agency that was happy to work with me and was willing to help with a lot of things. There were not a lot of issues that I had working with the Food Pantry. There were some challenges when it came to the filming part of my video, I had to film my video later since the day I was supposed to film was on Halloween, it would’ve been different then going on a normal day. This was the first time that we had to do the video all by ourselves from beginning to end. I feel that I did a good job of delegating all of the jobs parts that go into making a complete video. I believe that this lead to my video turning out the way it did.

My videos came out better than expected, but I was not sure how I wanted my videos to come out when I started. I believe my videos were one of the best in the class. They told a story and had b-roll that went with everything that was being talked about. Also I never used the same b-roll twice between both videos. I received a lot of positive feedback for my videos especially from my partner agency. Any constructive feedback that I did receive was easily fixed. When I gave feedback to others videos, I feel that they did not change the things that I saw, they just left their videos how they were and it made their videos have flaws.

If I could do this video again, I would spend more time on the clients and the volunteers because the clients are greatly affected by what the food pantry does  and I wish I could of captured more of that. The volunteers fuel the pantry, they spend their time working and help so many people. I think the structure for this project was good, so if something like this were to be repeated, I would leave everything the same. My advice for future Team Members working on this project would be to make sure that everything is filmed properly the first time so that there is no need to go back and do it again. Also to get a lot of b-roll to ensure that interviews can be covered up properly.
