Outside Commercial Project

The Outside Commercial Project was a commercial based on St.Charles Parish and promoting the parish in a positive way to get more people to want to move and stay here. My group was the residents group, so we were responsible for covering the crime, schools, jobs, and houses. In my group, we planned interviews with real estate agents, principals, students, and actual residents to get their opinion on the parish. We also went out and filmed B-Roll of the houses and around schools so the audience could get an inside look of whats going on.

The project as a whole was a great learning experience and it helped me with getting to know what the real world would be like. The parts that I liked about this project was going out in the community to get footage of things and meet new people. I did not like that it was difficult for my group members to schedule interviews so it was a little hard because we had a time limit on when our videos had to be done. During the completion of this project, I learned that in this field, nothing is easy. It was difficult trying to plan things with having a time limit but we had to improvise and get it done.

Working with an outside client for the first time was good but a little stressful at the same time because we had a limit on when things should be finished, so I couldn’t really “BS” with this project.  My group worked well together but faced challenges when it came to planning interviews because some of us planned things at the same time and we only had 2 drivers so we all couldn’t be at different places at once. I was very involved in this project, being that I was there when everyone had to get shots and interviews because I had to drive. My involvement contributed to the group’s success because I was one of the drivers for the group so I brought them where they needed to be.

My video was actually good then what I thought it would be. I thought my video would be terrible because of the fact that two of the three principals weren’t answering fast enough but it came out fine. My group’s videos were better than most of the other group’s videos because some videos weren’t edited as good and didn’t have good B-Roll shots like my group did. The feedback I received from others helped me improve my video because I added more things to my video to make SCPPS look like we have the best schools in America. Yes, because their videos have improved from the first time that we presented the videos.

If I were to do this project all over again, I would get more B-Roll and interview all of the schools so the audience could get a broader view of the schools thats offered in St.Charles Parish. I don’t think anything needs to change for the project next year because its fine the way it is. I would tell the students next year to take advantage of the time you have to do the project because it will come back to bite you in the butt if you don’t. Also, make sure to plan the interviews at different times from your group members so the times don’t clash.
