Larry Davis: “The Destrehan girls track team is on the rise led by Jala Richard a stellar who knows what it takes to be on top. Even now in her injured state she’s still working hard, persevering, and striving for excellence.

“Major or minor injury Jala will grind.”

Jala Richard: “When I first started practice, I kept feeling this tightness in my lower leg. But I thought I was just sore. So I kept practicing and it stayed so I said ‘okay I need to get this checked out.’ And it turns out, I had a tear! So I had to rest a little bit and go to therapy.”

Coach Matthews: “It’s a minor injury that it’s early on in the season that it’s early in the season because we don’t really get into the ‘meat’ of our competition until March, mid March, late March.”

Ny’Jha Keller: “She injured but she still work fast. Even her worst is still good.”

Larry Davis: “Jala has a wonderful personality and I was able to talk to her mom and fellow teammate how they felt.”

Bertina Richard: “Definitely experience; she’s got a decade of it. She’s a long time, and I think she’s a leader but she’s very reserved. She’s not someone who’s very very aggressive. Kinda someone who’s gonna lead by actions and lead by example and not by words.”

Jocelyn Davis: “She’s a really good captain… She’s just the light, when you’re feeling down she’s the one who will bring you back up.”

Larry Davis: “I’m Larry Davis, and that’s all for this behind the jersey.”
