Press Play News: Quarter 1

Korbin Bryan, Producer

My part of the newscast was the teen driving safety commercial. I produced the commercial for both the newscast and a cash scholarship for student commercials for teen driving. The video discourages texting and driving by appealing to pathos in the viewers. The theme of the video is “Don’t Be a Statistic”. I gave a statistic about teen driving, then showed the girl wrecking; presumably dying. By then saying “Don’t Be a Statistic”, it encourages people to not die because of texting and driving.

My peers really liked my camera quality and said it looked professionally filmed. I agree because I used the cinematic camera for the video. They also said the voiceover was really good. That is because I recorded it like 6 different times to get a good take. I took my time to doctor the audio to make it sound nice.

One negative aspect they mentioned was how slow it developed, which I agree with. One I don’t agree with is how some people didn’t like the ending shots. I don’t think they are cheesy, I think it makes it more legit because it shows her car actually crashed.

The main thing I learned is that a good camera and good nat sound mic make all the difference in a video’s quality. If I could re-do the project, I would just try to be even more creative.
