Press Play News: Quarter 1

Gabrielle Wood, Entertainment News Reporter

BOUTTE:

For this quarter, my focus was Entertainment News. I created my own segment based off of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globes and it came out well done. I created my own show open, found lower thirds and transitions and also put in live footage from the show. I filmed myself narrating through the segment behind the studio desk and in front of a “red carpet” background that I had created for Press Play News. Some of the main categories that I discussed were best dressed, awards, memorable moments and speeches. Overall, I am very confident in how the video came out and happy that I was able to pursue someone that I am passionate about, as well as be creative on my own terms.

Many of my peers enjoyed my introduction to the video and that the graphics/background was visually appearing. Few people also mentioned that I had a great camera presence and that the segment was almost like a real E News ones. I definitely agree with the positive feedback because I worked really hard and made this video “out the box” in order to achieve all of these things.

My peers said that I could have done better lowering the audio at times and leaving more head room in certain shots. I agree that all my audio should have been kept at the same level through out the video. Next time, I will make sure it stays consistent the entire time.

From this quarter, I learned how to use the key effect and put together my very own segment all by myself, for the first time. I also learned how to use green screens, sourcing information and many other things that entertainment anchors have to do. If I could start this project again, I would have re-filmed some of the parts in the studio because I messed up or stumbled over my words a few times.
