Lulling, LA – A few weeks ago the temperatures dropped below freezing. We interviewed the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter’s Veterinarian Jenna Troxcler on what different processions had to be taken to better care for these animals.

The St. Charles parish animal shelter contains nearly 40 dogs and 1 horse and between 125 to 200 cats depending on the season.  When it gets cold different procosionaries are taken to keep these animals warm. The vet at the animal shelter gave a run down of that. 

“although we have 2 sides to our dog runs, one being leading to outside. To maintain the heat in the building we simply roll those doors down. We also have one horse so we give him a blanket and put him under the sally port to block the wind” Jenna said.

Being that nearly 68 percent of American households own a pet of some sorts. Jenna Troxler also gave tips on how to keep those furry animals warm at home. “dogs and cats need to be inside with a heat source of some sorts. For feral cats they are wild cats and will not come inside so the most you can do is leave hay and or a chest for them to keep warm and for bedding>
