Hunter Batt, Hahnville Cross Country runner

Phillip Cheramie, Director

I recently had a thorough talk with Hunter Batt, a runner for Hahnville’s cross country team about his past injuries and how he over came them in order to make for a better running environment.

I was very surprised and interested to find out that over his long and diverse athletic career, he has many injuries but that hasn’t slowed his success or his progress at his current sport, running. His most recent notable injury was his freshmen year when pulled multiple muscles in his knee due to a lack of proper warm-ups.

In the past, Hunter has has issues with injuries while he swam, biked, and ran but he ultimately enjoyed running the most and with that injury freshmen year, he now has much more knowledge and lessons to tell about stretching and taking the time to warm-up.

“It made me realize that stretching and stuff and making sure you’re warm before you put in hard work is important because you can tear something or bruise something.” (Hunter Batt)

Hunter is now a senior at Hahnville High School at has made it clear that he is going to leave a legacy on this school by setting a personal record in the 3 mile event at 16:57 at St. Joseph’s Academy as well as in the 5k at 17:31.

With all of his running skills, he plans on running for Nicholls, Northwestern, or Southeastern to stay in the prime running condition he currently is in.

He has shown much progress over this year and his fellow teammates have also seen this progress and agree that he has improved a lot.

“Sophomore year we were both beginners and then you know, junior year we obviously got better because ya know, we got older and we were used to running and stuff but it’s about the work and stuff that he put into it starting Christmas time junior year he started running about every single day.” (William Dines)

When Hunter qualified for state, he ran and came in 77th place with an incredible time of 17:41 being the first runner among his cross country teammates to cross the finish line.

“With running you get out of it what you put into it so running everyday is gonna have extreme benefits and it’s gonna make you a lot better and that’s what happened with him.” (William Dines)
