Arc Commercial Reflection

LULING,LA-

The Arc of St. Charles project my production crew completed required us to complete a 30 second and a one minute about a specific enterprise from the Arc of St. Charles. Each group was assigned a specific company. I was assigned to the Swamp shredders enterprise. We began our project with researching the Arc and learning about the overall company. Then we proceeded by meeting with Kelsey, the communications director at the Arc. She explained to us what she wanted us to do and how we could go about it. Next, we visited a few of the enterprises just so we could see what we were working with. After we made our trips, we returned to brainstorm our project. We came up with some interview questions, a few camera shots, and eventually wrote a script for our videos. We immediately began filming and interviewing. This process required a lot of time, travelling, and patience. We would go film, begin to edit, and then realize that we were missing footage. Those were a few challenges but we eventually completed the rough draft. We presented it to our peers about three times, received feedback, and edited more. Then finally we presented our videos to Kelsey and another representative of the Arc. The gave us some feedback and we edited some more. We presented the videos to our peers two more times and now the videos are completely finished.

The project as a whole was an amazing experience. My production crew and I were able to interact and work with a different group of people. It took a lot of hard work and diligence but the responsibility we had to have was a pleasure. We learned a lot of new communication, production, and professional skills. I liked how much feedback we received. This allowed me to gain the ability to take constructive criticism well into consideration and be able to change some things based on the criticism. There was no part about the project that I did not enjoy.

Working with an outside client for the first time was really interesting. We had to remain professional at all times and this was no challenge for us as a team. This project was more of a real world experience. My group worked really well together. In addition to our group project, we also had other things to complete individually so it was a bit challenging for us all to be available at the same times. I feel as if i could have been involved in the editing more but I feel I contributed a good amount of work and dedication into the project. I helped film and write the script. I was also the voice over for the videos. I contributed to my group’s success because we, along with others, were very pleased with the final product.

My group expected our video to be a bit boring because our enterprise was not the most interesting, but we actually made it seem very interesting. I believe our videos were not better than other groups but we were one a group the provided one of the successful videos. We included everything we needed in our video and our creativity brung it all together. The feedback we received from other groups were extremely helpful. We were able to know how others viewed our project and what parts of the videos were effective or not. Some groups actually took some feedback and corrected mistakes, but other groups did not really do the same so their videos were not as good as they could have been.

If I had to do this video over again, I would try my best to film everything in one day so that we could have more time to edit. Next year Mr. Robinson should do everything exactly the same because the assignment was planned really great and organized.  If I had the ability to come back and speak to students who are preparing to do the same project, I would be sure to tell them to take it seriously because the due date come quicker than you think it will. I would also tell them to plan as much as possible and always try to receive feedback because it really helps.
