Arc of St.Charles PSA Journal

The Arc of St.Charles, which is a non-profit organization that helps, and gives opportunities to individuals with intellectual and  developmental disabilities, came to us and asked if we could make commercials for their enterprises. My group had been selected to do the Throw Me Something Mister Mardi Gras store. After Doing some research on the Arc, Visiting the store, and interviewing the workers and individuals we had put together a great 1 minute and a 30 second commercial.

My thoughts on the project as a whole was that it would be amazing to do a commercial that is advertising help for people in need, but i was concerned on how it would be done and how it would come out. One thing I liked in this project were interviewing the individuals and hearing how the Arc has helped them to become more ready for the world despite being different from the rest of the world. I also like how as a group we came up with many creative. Somethings that i learned from this project was that team collaboration is a great thing, and many other things.

Working with an outside client for the first time was scary because I didn’t think that we could produce exactly what the client wanted, but my group did what the client asked and beyond. My group worked very well together. There were many challenges that came up, for example me doing my weather reports and another person in my group had to get their script ready for a Friday Night game, and we had lost our footage on one of our computers we had edited on.

The video was way more better than the expectations I had in the beginning. I thought we were going to keep it very simple but we went beyond simple. I feel like my groups video was better than some of the other videos. I think what made our video better was that we had more effects, better music, and more creative shots. The feedback we received did help our video come out more successful.

If I was to do this project all over again, I would try to have more time to get more shoots and more interviews. If I was to also to come back and speak to the kids that were doing this project next year, i would tell to use their time wisely, and to learn how to collaborate because collaboration is key. To be successful as a team you should collaborate and take each others criticism as team members and other groups.
