Battle of the Wildcats, Destrehan sneaks by East Saint John

LULING,LA- On Friday, Destrehan High School defeated East Saint John in the most anticipated Destrehan football game this season. The game was taken into overtime after Destrehan’s kicker, Phillip Stratton, missed a short field goal with 0:09 seconds left in the game, leaving the score 28-28.

Both teams fought for the lead throughout the entire game. East Saint John made the first touchdown of the game when Jarius Monroe intercepted a throw made by Harold Blood and ran deep to the 5 yard line. This play was followed by a handoff to Garner who made it into the end zone, putting East Saint John in the lead. Not too long after, Amauchechu Nnaji-Collins stripped the ball away from East Saint John’s quarterback and smoothly made it into the end zone.

East Saint John continuously tried for a two point conversions but only prevailed twice. After the game went into overtime, East Saint John made the first touchdown which put them in the lead, but once again, they failed the two point conversion. This mishap put the score at 28-34. Destrehan’s offense took the field and brung the game home after a touchdown and a game winning field goal made by Phillip Stratton. The ending score was 35-34. With these results, East Saint John has fallen 3-3 overall and 2-1 in district play.
