OTP Analysis

Gabrielle Wood, Camera

LULING: I watched the episode of OTP HHS Week 4 and for the most part, the anchor does a great job of speaking clearly. However, she does look very nervous which makes her posture sway side to side and as a host, you should be sitting up straight and still. She should definitely look at either the coach or the camera more because she tends to look down at her script more than frequently. The director did a great job at switching and making sure the conversation had a smooth flow when doing so. Directing the cameras to make sure they were fixed was also spot on, as well as how the highlights played right on time. It seems to be that Coach Salt is more focused than Kaycee which easily can be fixed for next time. The only camera that should’ve been leveled more would be the one where it’s on both of them. It was a little more tilted rather than showing being straight across. The same camera needed to be more smoother when making the transition of coming back from the break. The audio person did a good job of fixing the audio levels in the beginning because Coach Salt’s was too low at first. Maybe this should’ve been checked on from the audio person before the show started. Mics were great and the music is just right for the highlights. The editing seemed to be good too, having the highlights in order and the plays making sense. Everything is spelled correctly but there is sometimes a blank screen coming from the break which doesn’t look too good.

Overall, I think the quality can be improved slightly just because of the slight defocused shots and not so smooth transitions. The crew members definitely had strengths in directing and audio because there were barely any flaws. What needs most improvement would be anchoring and controlling the cameras because they both weren’t polished. In these areas of improvement, we need to work on talking in front of a camera, or how to host, and make sure we get practice in when doing the cameras. The director can make sure that everything is good to go and people know what they are doing in their role before the show hits air. This episode was really great to watch and will be very helpful to learn from.
