Hahnville and Destrehan High Schools State Swim Meet Preview

Parker Gerard Peltier, Staff Writer

On the weekend of November 20-22 both the Hahnville and Destrehan boys and girls swim teams will be competing in the LHSAA State Championship meet in Sulphur, Louisiana. Both teams have both individuals swimming, as well as, relay teams.

The two schools will compete in Division I, which was the topic of various meetings for the LHSAA this past summer. The major debate was over whether or not the swimming divisions should be split into select and non-select, similar to what was done by the LHSAA in football. If the LHSAA had made the decision to go to this format, the Hahnville boys team would be a heavy favorite to win the meet this year, however, the LHSAA decided against the select and non-select format. On a much more positive note the Hahnville boys are in a tight race for the medley relay title at the state meet this year. Blaise Wise, Earl Madden, Vincent Tamplain, and Warren Massimini make up the 200 medley relay team for the Tigers and swim backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and freestyle respectively. Hahnville also looks to edge out Jesuit for third place overall at the state meet.

A notable swimmer, who will also be swimming at the State meet is Collin Bone. in talking to fans and a few teammates on the first day of the meet he is expected to hold virtually every freestyle record in the state of Louisiana. Collin has already signed with Auburn University to swim as a Division I college athlete, and he plans to major in engineering.
