Hahnville moves above .500 with 49-15 victory over East St. John

A year ago, when the Hahnville Tigers fell to 2-3 after 5 games, the Tigers closed out the regular season winning seven games in a row and an appearance in the Class 5A Quarterfinals.

Following a 2-3 start again this season, Hahnville have now won two games in a row, so history may be repeating itself.

Hahnville improved to 4-3 overall, 2-1 in District 7-5A play with a triumph home win Friday night over the East St. John Wildcats.

Hahnville finished the game with 478 yards of offense, including 300 rushing on 49 attempts as the Tigers put themselves about .500 both overall and in district play.

As for East St. John, the woes continues as the Wildcats fell to 0-7 overall, 0-4 in district play and trailed the Tigers 42-0 at halftime before stepping it up and getting their only two touchdowns in the second half.

A 2- yard run by Norquell Flowers and a 55-yard punt by Anthony “Pooka” Williams, who finished with 145 yards on 10 carries, gave Hahnville a 13-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Tigers offense didn’t stop there as Williams bolted down the field 72 yards for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion from quarterback Mike Neal to Kevin Cormadelle extended Hahnville’s lead to 21-0 with 9:57 left to go in the 1st half.

After a 3-yard touchdown run by Drew Dunn, Neal tossed two touchdown passes of 12 yards to Chandler Freeman and 8 yards to Devonte Cravin within 30 seconds left in the first half with gave the Tigers a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Less than two mintutes going into the second half, East St. John came up with its first score of the game with a 29-yard pass from Wildcats quarterback Marquise Darensbourg to Damonte Coxie. A two-point pass made it 42-8.

Hahnville’s last score of the game came from a 46-yard pass from Neal to Cade Miquez.

Neal finished 8 of 14 passing for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

East St. John kept fighting as a 9-yard pass from Darensbourg to A.J. Long was added at 4:58 of the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, this would make the final score of 49-15.

Darensbourg finished 16 or 27 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Coxie had three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown while Long had four passes for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Hahnville’s defense held the Wildcats to 25 yards rushing on 18 attempts.

Hahnville seems to have captured their confidence back and ready to make some noise in class 5A.

The Tigers will travel to Raceland, LA as they take on Central Lafourche Trojans this Friday.

East St. John will also be on the road this Friday as they take on the Terrebonne Tigers.
