Hahnville stumbles to 2-3 after loss to St. Thomas More

The struggle continues for the Hahnville Tigers.

Week 5 at St. Thomas More promised to be one of the most challenging games on Hahnville’s schedule. The Cougars are a 4A state championship contender. They were also coming off a tough lose to Catholic of Baton Rouge.

Hahnville had to take a slight road trip to Lafayette one week after losing to their rival Destrehan. That’s a bit challenging to recover from and on Friday night, it proved to be more of a challenge than the Tigers bargained for.

St. Thomas More got a 52-12 victory in non-district action, while handing Hahnville its third straight defeat and leaving the Tigers in search for answers.

Despite a good effort offensively from the Tigers, defensively they were unable to stop the passing duo of Cougars quarterback William Bellamy and Trevor Begue.

Bellamy connected with Begue for three touchdown passes. Begue finished with four touchdowns including a 93-yard kickoff return. Evan Trahan rushed over 120 yards and scored twice.

Getting off to a slow start has become a bad habit for Hahnville.

For the past 5 games, the Tigers have found themselves starting their games off slow. Fortunately, only two games have turned into victories.

This game was strikingly simliar to last week’s 48-23 loss to Destrehan. In that game, Destrehan scored five first-half touchdowns, and the Cougars matched that Friday night.

The Tigers just couldn’t seem to figure out Begue, who finished with seven catches for 166 yards.

Three-and-out also became a pattern, except for penalties.

The Tigers didn’t pick up a first down until early in the second quarter on Anthony Williams’ 46-yard run. But by that time, it was 28-6, on the way to a 38-6 Cougar halftime lead.

Mike Neal threw two touchdown passes for Hahnville, one to Kevin Comardelle (25 yards) and another to Devonte Cravin (24 yards)

St. Thomas More completely whipped Hahnville on the line of scrimmage and for the second straight week, Hahnville struggled to contain an explosive shotgun spread attack.

Hahnville will have a chance to redeem themselves this week as they travel to take on the Terrebonne Tigers in District 5A play. Terrebonne is coming off a 47-21 lose to Destrehan last week.
